Happy Halloween!

According to the count down there are 5 1/2 hours to go until the start of NaNoWriMo. I’m still a bit clueless as to what my plot is, but I’m determined to succeed!
The kick off party was today. We took Ben in his Halloween costume and I think everyone would agree he was good as gold. It was great to see some old faces from last year and some new ones too. I heard lots of good ideas! I’m hoping we’ll be able to do a novel swap this year in December.
A couple of people asked what I was on when I came up with Pixies in Space :). Unfortunately the idea first came to me 2 years ago so I can’t even blame that one on Ben.
So, in about 3 hours the baby will be going to bed and we’ll be getting ready for our all-nighter. OK, for me it might just be a late-nighter, but I’m definitely going to get a couple of hours in while the baby is asleep and hopefully get a good way through the only 2 chapters I have planned so far. This year is definitely going to be the most challenging for me so far! Wish me luck :).

Less than a week to go…

…before NaNoWriMo 2010 is upon us, and I still have no plan. A couple of random plot points involving pixie dust, cute little animal cyborgs, blood-sucking Fae and a time traveller, but no actual way to tie them all together into a coherent story. Whoops! I guess I’m just going to have to write an incoherent story and hope it all works out in the end. Oh, and I still need a name for my captain. How about Jack? No, wait, I think that’s been taken…

New blog

Welcome to my new blog! This is a very self-centred place where I will be posting stuff all about me :). For stuff about my family and my beautiful son Ben go to www.projectmonkey.me.uk. For random waffling about what I need to write, novel excerpts and pictures of craft projects, stay here.

The next big thing is NaNoWriMo 2010, which starts Nov 1st. This year I am ML once again, though I have Bec, my lovely co-ML, to help me out. Since I also have a little distraction in the form of a teething baby my novel is going to be a bit mad in the hopes that being sleep deprived might actually be a benefit. The novel is Pixies in Space! Here is the summary I’ve posted on the NaNoWriMo site:

Foxglove Thistledown always considered himself to be a typical pixie. He lived in a toadstool house on a sun-soaked meadow, wore the latest fashions crafted from seasonal flower petals, and was best friends with a red squirrel. Typical pixie stuff. Until the day he was stolen from his exhibit by a desperate space captain and learned his whole world was a lie. Now he’s stuck in on a failing ship with a motley crew, a mysterious passenger, and a fairy engineer who only wants him for his pixie dust. Fox is about to learn he’s not as typical as he thought he was.

There’s also going to be space vampire pirates (non-sparkly), a crazy geneticist, and I haven’t worked out how yet but I’ll get those ninjas in there somewhere I’m sure. The only problem I have now is getting a plan done by November because I know that this project is not going to get off the ground without one. Wish me luck!
